Your Instructor: Denise Kayan

Hailing from Melbourne, Denise has been dancing and performing samba since 2009; co-founding Sambasita Productions, Melbourne’s Premier Brazilian Entertainment company, where she is also the lead choreographer.
She is protege of Brasilian Samba Royalty, Egili Oliveira. She is currently the Rainha de Escola (Queen of Samba school) for GRES Unidos Da Ponte in 2020 Carnaval in Rio de Janiero.
Denise is also a passista dancer for two samba schools in Rio de Janiero’s special group; Mocidade Indepedente de Padre Miguel and Vila Isabel. She was previously Musa in 2018 and 2019 for Renascer de Jacarepagua.
Denise choreographed the winning entry for Open Samba Group at the Australian Latin Dance Championships 2017. Denise is also one of the founders of the project, Samba Sirens, which aims to foster meaningful collaborations and connections between Australian based Samba Artists from across the Country. This led to the inaugural Australian Samba Retreat event in 2019 with her co-founders.
